For years, I treated my body like a project – something to fix, improve, or shrink.
Even on my yoga mat, I was chasing perfection: straighter legs, flatter abs, deeper stretches. But every time I pushed harder, my body pulled away.
It wasn’t until one day – lying in Savasana, tears rolling down my face – that I realized:
My body didn’t need to be fixed. It needed to be heard.
That’s when yoga stopped being exercise and became something else entirely: a homecoming.
Step-by-Step: The “From Tension to Trust” Practice
🕐 Duration: 12-15 minutes💡 Goal: Rebuild safety, softness, and body trust through grounding movement and breath.🪷 Tools: Yoga mat, pillow, blanket.
1. Body Scan + Grounding Breath (2 minutes)
- Sit or lie down.
- Inhale through your nose for 4 counts, exhale through your mouth for 6.
- Notice where your body feels tense – without trying to change it.
Awareness is the first act of trust.
2. Seated Shoulder Rolls + Neck Release (2 minutes)
- Inhale, roll shoulders up; exhale, release down.
- Gently tilt your head side to side.
Invites soft movement and reminds you that small effort still counts.
3. Cat-Cow Flow (3 minutes)
- On hands and knees: inhale, arch your spine (Cow); exhale, round (Cat).
- Move slowly, matching breath to motion.
Rebuilds rhythm between body and breath – the foundation of safety.
4. Supported Forward Fold (3 minutes)
- Sit tall, extend legs, place a pillow under your knees if needed.
- Hinge forward gently, resting arms on legs.
Symbolizes surrender – letting go of control and trusting support.
5. Reclined Butterfly + Hand on Heart (3-4 minutes)
- Lie back, soles of feet together, knees open.
- Place one hand on your heart, one on your belly.
- Breathe slowly.
This is where trust blooms – when you allow yourself to be held by stillness.
Before & After Transformation
Before:
- Constantly tense or pushing your body too hard.
- Feeling disconnected from sensations.
- Distrust between what your body feels and what your mind demands.
After:
- Softer, calmer, and more attuned.
- Breathing feels natural, not forced.
- You move from control to cooperation – your body feels like home again.
Table Comparison
| Aspect | Before (Tension & Control) | After (Trust & Connection) |
|---|---|---|
| Body Awareness | Dismissed or ignored | Honored and felt |
| Breathing | Shallow, forced | Gentle, steady |
| Movement | Perfection-driven | Intuitive and kind |
| Mindset | “My body’s failing me.” | “My body’s guiding me.” |
| Emotion | Anxiety, pressure | Peace, safety |

Now, yoga isn’t something I do. It’s how I come home.
If you’ve ever felt like your body betrayed you, I want you to know – it’s still on your side. It’s just waiting for you to listen.
